The Bamboos of the World, is the first comprehensive (taxonomic as well as horticultural) reference work that provides basic information on bamboos world wide, whether they are wild or cultivated, well-known or rather unknown.

The work, based on bamboo literature, facilitates access to further data by citation and a comprehensive bibliography. I wanted a comprehensive book on bamboos in order to help me take care of some new outdoor-privacy purchases.

This book *does* contain quite a bit about the plant, but it's very, very s: it includes (not so great) poetry about bamboo in unexpected places, and the entire first 3/4 of the book seems to be a -- albeit interesting but mostly useless -- catalogue about the historical uses of Cited bamboos of the world book The bulk of the book is an encyclopedia of bamboo genera, species, and cultivars.

More than bamboos from 40 different genera are described in detail, including excellent photos, information on size, lighting and temperature requirements, native range, physical characteristics, landscape and other uses.
